Ever heard of the word Thru-Hiking? It is all about taking a hike on a very long trail, either finishing it in one trip, or in sections.

How long is “long”? Well, the trail that comes to my mind when Thru-Hiking is discussed is the AT - the Appalachian Trail. This is a well-marked trail which is more than 2000 miles long… 2175 to be exact. Now that’s definitely a serious hiking feat!

A lot of people all over the world have tried finishing the trail, but according to records, only about 20% actually reached the end of the trail.

Thru-Hiking therefore needs a large dose of determination, plus physical and mental readiness. I like to go on hikes, but I don’t think my mind and body can take the challenges that Thru-Hiking offers. While it may be a very rewarding experience to finish a 2000-mile trail, I will just stick to day hikes and multi-day hikes… for now.
