Before a multi-day hiking trip, you need to make sure that you are physically ready for the demands of the activity. You should be in good physical condition before embarking on a hike.
Even if you are used to hiking relatively long distances, walking will not be that comfortable if you are going on a multi-day hike and you have a heavy and bulky backpack.
When you are training for your hike, take it nice and slow. Try going on day hikes first (without a backpack), and gradually increase the number of miles that you cover. Now, try to carry a backpack, gradually increasing its weight. The idea here is for you to get used to walking long distances with a heavy load on your back. You can go on increasing the number of miles as well as the weight of your pack.
In addition, keep in mind that walking with a backpack on a smooth, flat trail is different from walking uphill, or downhill, so make sure to get used to walking uphill and downhill.
In general, the training that you do should help you improve your level of fitness so you will be able to take on any challenge you may encounter while hiking. So get in shape and have fun out there!
